Renovations!
Dear MATRIX visitor,
The historic building in which we are housed, the Huis van Ophem, will soon undergo a thorough restoration. The roof will be replaced and new windows will be installed. The stairwell and the sanitary facilities will also be given a good freshening up.
But you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs … which means we will have to close our library from 12 March and to safely store the collection elsewhere.
What does this mean for you?
- The sheet music, CDs, LPs and CD-ROMs will be unavailable for the entire duration of the renovations (expected until at least the end of 2025).
- The library of literature (books and magazines) will be temporarily housed in the University Library (Ladeuzeplein 2). The collection can be freely consulted there. It will also be possible to borrow items.*
With this message, we would like to make a heartfelt appeal to borrow all the material you think you will need before 12 March for the entire duration of the renovations. There is no limit on the number of loans, so feel free to make a large selection. After the reopening in 2026, we will contact you again to return the material to the library.
To ensure everyone has the chance to visit the MATRIX library before it closes, we are adding extra opening hours in addition to the normal opening hours. If you are unable to visit before 12 March, you can also reserve material. Reserved items can be collected by appointment until 18 April (by sending an email to melissa@matrix-new-music.be).
Additional opening hours:
- Wednesday 26 February, 19:00-21:00
- Thursday 6 March, 19:00-21:00
- Monday 10 March, 10:00-17:00
- Tuesday 11 March, 19:00-21:00
* The books and magazines from the MATRIX collection will be unavailable from 19 April to 1 May. They will be available for consultation and lending again in the University Library from 2 May. If you plan to consult the MATRIX collection in the University Library, it is best to contact us first via melissa@matrix-new-music.be.
If you would like to return any material to us while MATRIX is closed, you can also do so at the University Library desk.
For any questions about our closure and services, please feel free to contact Melissa. If you know anyone else who should receive this message, please be sure to forward it to them!
Thank you for your understanding.
Kind regards,
The MATRIX team
